As the title suggest, Blue & Lonesome includes songs that Jones built his reputation on: hardcore honky tonk songs with themes of heartache and loss. Although it is a compilation, it is an impressive collection featuring a mixed bag of Jones originals and songs made famous by others, including Marty Robbins, Don Gibson, Lefty Frizzell and.

It originally came out in 63' and is thematic in nature around the themes of being Blue & Lonesome, something Possum's catalog had enough of to choose a Best Of, even at this early juncture. George was already on to UA, by the time Mercury got this to market, but it's a solid collection, nonetheless/5(8).

Mar 13,  · The material is stone cold classic: beginning with Don Gibson 's standard "Oh Lonesome Me" and rattling through a raucous version of Jimmie Fox's "Just Little Boy Blue" that goes down as one of the most unhinged rockabilly tunes he ever cut and a pair of Hank Williams nuggets, as well as a Singing The Blues - George Jones - Blue & Lonesome.
